My Rating: 5 Stars Something Wicked This Way Comes was the third novel I read from Ray Bradbury and I absolutely love his style of writing. He is amazingly creative and knows perfectly how to put it on paper. This fantasy novel is about the arrival of a mysterious and dark festival at the small Green Town. The story happens around the two main characters, the 13 years old William Halloway and Jim Nightshade, as they explore the carnival and discover something more sinister is afoot. Mr Dark, the owner of the carnival, is not about to let two children ruin everything. The first thing I enjoyed about this book is the detailed description. I usually find long descriptions tedious but Bradbury got me even more into the story with the first detailed descriptions of the set-up of the carnival. I got the feeling that in the beginning the carnival would be full of light and have this funny feeling about it but I got it wrong. As the carnival grows, Bradbury describes a dark and sinister atmosphere that will stay that way for the whole story. I can see a perfect picture of the carnival in my head with all the details given. The second thing I enjoyed about this book were the lessons. How we should appreciate what we have and not live in the past (Charles Halloway, Jim's father, that wants to be young again), friendship and the unstoppable loyalty between family and friends when things get tough. Jim and Will's strong bond and their need to protect each other is the weapon to fight off Mr Dark along with Will's father that reveals himself to be crucial in the face of danger. Let's not forget also Mr Halloway that faces his hollow desires and stands against Mr Dark. All together they find the secret to defeating Mr Dark and his sinister carnival. Absolutely loved it and highly recommend it to anyone who is interested in Dark Fantasy.
