My Rating: 4 Stars This was the first book I read from Ms Liz Mugavero and the A Pawsitively Organic Mystery series and this fast-paced cosy-mystery was a joy to read. Stan Connor lives a peaceful life with her handsome boyfriend Jake Mcgee, ready to open her Pawsitively Organic Pet Patisserie and Bakery when her life is turned upside down. Not only she is forced to attend her mother's engagement party with the Mayor Tony Falco, she receives the unexpected visit of her sister Caitlyn and her daughter Eva who plan to stay for a while. As all of this wasn't enough, an old co-worker is found dead and Stan's ex is accused of the crime. Now it's up to Stan to solve the murder and make things right. There are several aspects I enjoyed in this story. The first being the wonderful connections and relationships that Stan has with her family and friends. It serves as a reminder that even when life gets crazy, we have people that we can truly count on to have our backs and to help us in a moment of need. The second thing is Stan herself. I found myself smiling over her character, she's funny, compassionate and truly sees the good in people. Plus, her furry friends help too. The plot is very nice and engaging and the story is fast-paced. There is nothing that I enjoy more than a murder plot that comes perfectly together in the end with all the questions answered and all the loose ends tied. Even though I caught up to the murderer before the final chapter, I still liked to discover the motivation behind it. Definitely didn't disappoint. Looking for a cosy-mystery? Take this one! My Rating: 4 Stars A humorous and entertaining paranormal book! I would go as far as saying it's a cosy mystery with a few ghosts in the mix. This was the first book I have read from Ms Angie Fox and the Verity Long collection but it can be read has a stand-alone. Ms Fox gives all the background information, complete with references to events that took place in the previous books. To summarise: Verity Long is trying out her new self-appointed job as a ghost hunter, but without much success until her luck changes. Her first job comes in a form of a mansion with a few not-so-friendly ghosts inside. Accompanied by her ghost-gangster Frankie, she will find the hard way that some ghosts have some very nasty temperaments and they that they can make life very difficult even for those trying to help. Set in a mansion that hasn't been occupied in 100 years, Verity's mission is to find out why are the ghosts attached to the house and how to release them, without becoming a ghost herself in the process. A very entertaining read! The story-line is very good and Ms Fox makes it very difficult to guess who or what is behind the whole ghost problem. The twists make it even more interesting and the humorous situations let you have a good laugh. I really liked Frankie as a character and a ghost-companion, he is simply hilarious. His sarcasm is brilliant and brings some spice to the story. He definitely makes Verity's life more interesting especially when he tries to be funny in moments where they should be scared. I definitely want to read the next book and I'll probably go find the previous ones because I would like to know in more detail how Verity ended up with Frankie! Read it, it's very worth it! Thank you NetGalley and the author for allowing me to read and review a digital copy of this book. My Rating: 5 Stars Beautiful, charming, funny with a dark approach. This middle grade book can definitely be read and appreciated by all ages. The fast-pace of the book, it's charming characters, Warren and his friends, the mystery plot and all this turns and unexpected twists is the perfect combination for a very entertaining book. The illustrations are absolutely breathtaking and go perfectly with the story. I definitely want to see the printed version of it and probably buy it too! Thank you NetGalley, the publisher Quirk Books, and the author for allowing me to read and review a digital copy of this book. My Rating: 4 Stars Brilliant, simply impossible to put down. The level of suspense made it impossible not to connect with the characters and the plot. I think it's the first true political plot that I have read so far in Agatha Christie novels and I highly enjoyed it. Everyone wants to know the Count's memoirs, fearing what they may contain and they will do everything in their power to get it! It's what makes the story so addictive. The environment just leaks suspense and intrigue. Furthermore, the characters are just as intriguing as the plot, and it keeps the reader guessing how is responsible for the murders. The main character Anthony Cain adds the salt and the pepper to this story with his British humour, witty comments along with Superintendent Battle that reveals to be an unexpected character. In some parts, it was impossible not to laugh out loud! Another addictive delight from the Queen of Mysteries! My Rating: 5 Stars This is definitely one of the best novels by the Queen of Crime. I had some difficulty in going through the first 2 chapters with all the descriptions, but the wait was worth it. I think the lesson in this book is "what goes around, comes around", at the most unexpected places and the most unexpected time. There was a silence—a comfortable replete silence. Into that silence came The Voice. Without warning, inhuman, penetrating . . . “Ladies and gentlemen! Silence, please... You are charged with the following indictments.” Ten people are lured to a strange island, each one with a dark past that slowly comes to light and gets them killed, one by one. I couldn't figure out who the killer was until the very hand and the epilogue brings all the loose ends together perfectly. I loved the suspense and the speed that the events unfold, it will keep your heart racing! Furthermore, all the twists made my head spin and got me completely addicted to the plot. But the question is - who has the right to decide what justice is? And who is to decide what punishment serves the crime? And is perceived justice at all costs the ultimate goal, or is it the frequently pointless work of a maniac? As a matter of fact, what is justice after all? A masterpiece by Agatha Christie and a most-read! My Rating: 5 Stars Another great book by the Queen of Crime and Mystery! I had problems getting into the story in the beginning and keeping up with all the characters, but after the first chapters, it was impossible to put down. I loved the setting, being a big fan of the ancient Egypt history and mythology. It was the main reason I picked this book in the first place. Agatha Christie shows imagination and very good and deep research that supports the story beautifully. She creates a world with her incredible descriptions and it's definitely a great historical mystery! Furthermore, the reader sees the side of the family drama and the intrigues that mark the powerful families of the time. All the members of the family are suspects and I didn't have any idea of who could be the murder. Everyone had a motive and the opportunity to commit the crimes. In the final chapters, I was in shock. The twist was so unexpected that I saw everything spinning. The way Christie points out the murder and the reasons, it brings all the events and clues together, leaving no lose-ends. I honestly was not expecting it at all. Definitely one of the finest books of the Queen of Crime and Mystery! My rating: 5 Stars It was the first time I read this book and it's definitely one of my favourites from the Queen of Mystery! The plot looks simple and then it gets complicated as the reader gets to know all the characters. Suddenly, it's not so easy anymore. The characters are simply amazing and complex, and it seemed that everyone had something to hide. The only character I actually able to trusted was Charles. The pace of the story is very good and the suspense builds up very nicely. It was impossible for me to guess who the killer was, new events come up all the time and they will keep the reader guessing. The ending is quite shocking! Highly recommend it! 5 stars are well deserved. My Rating: 4 Stars Loved it! A great page-turner, filled with suspense that will you addicted until the last page. The 1920's with jazz, gangsters and murders is the perfect cocktail for a great reading! At each event, you'll dive deeper and deeper into the story and when you think you got everything figured out, you're in for a surprise. It's the first book I read from A.M. Dunnewin and I absolutely loved it. The way she describes a cold-night in New York was the only thing I needed to get into the story and later on, the intriguing plot that kept destroying my theories. I highly recommend this book to mystery/thriller/suspense lovers. The 5 stars are definitely well deserved and I can't way to see more of Ms Dunnewin! Thank you NetGalley, the publisher Dark Hour Press, and the author for allowing me to read and review a digital copy of this book. My Rating: 4 Stars I received this book before and I didn't read immediately, that a bad decision that was. I read this book in 4 days and highly enjoyed it. The story of a detective and his partner set out to hunt a group of three individuals that kidnap, rape and kill innocent young women. If they took someone you hold dear to you, would you put the law aside and make your own justice? A very thrilling novel packed with action with the main character, Detective Jason Coulter running against time to find his girlfriend knowing that her fate is the same as all the other victims before her. I have mixed feelings for the main character. It's very easy to slip into his shoes when it comes to the question of 'what would you do if it happened to you'. His determination, dedication and his willingness to go beyond the rules to make justice make him a fierce adversary. Those bad guys better watch out! I liked seeing the partnership between Coulter and his partner Dave, especially because they are, in terms of character, different but still compliment each other very well. You can definitely see the friendship and the loyalty between them. Furthermore, I really enjoyed the humour in this book because it balances really well the very serious scenarios of the novel. I can definitely see the old-school humour and I absolutely loved it! John Levitt did an amazing job! I definitely recommend this book especially for the fans of action-thriller novels! Thank you NetGalley, the publisher Endeavour Press, and the author for allowing me to read and review a digital copy of this book. My Rating: 5 Stars Absolutely marvellous! I'm an absolute fan of the Sherlock Holmes stories and so when I saw this title I was a bit redundant to read it. I had no idea what was waiting for me but I decided to take a chance. And it was a correct one to make! Sherlock Holmes and the Servants of Hell, I'm quite pleased to say is definitely worth reading, with a style of writing that brings one hell of an adventure! Holmes isn't the same person after defeating his archenemy, Professor Moriarty. Cases aren't challenging or intriguing anymore and Holmes is in an unpleasant and irritable mood. Dr Watson is concerned, especially considering the recurrent use of drugs of his dear friend when finding in a state of boredom. Then a missing person case comes in. A man went inside his attic room, locked the door on in inside, and disappeared. As Holmes and Watson take the case, another missing person case occurs exactly in exactly the same pattern. Are the cases connected? How so? While investigating these two cases, Holmes and Watson discover a secret society that indulges carnal pleasures and hides a mysterious box. How is it all related? Kane connects perfectly the original Sherlock Holmes stories showing a deep knowledge and understanding of the complex character that is Sherlock Holmes, providing the perspectives of both Watson and Holmes. Furthermore, the book is writing in the style of Arthur Conan Doyle, and I must say he would be proud! Thrilling story, a very good book!
