My Rating: 5 Stars Three words: Perfect, Amazing, Thrilling! This book just made my Top 10. I have to congratulate Genevieve Cogman for this amazing accomplishment of a novel! Brilliant! It's been a while since I got this deep with a book and I loved every little second of it. I couldn't put it down and I had to slow down the pace just long enough to receive the second book! This book was a bit of everything that I enjoy: Magic, Steampunk and Books. Absolutely marvellous story-line with Irene as the main character, a Junior Librarian spy and Kai, her new handsome assistant with a temper with secrets of his own. The two of them are given a mission that reveals itself to be more dangerous than they could possibly imagine. I fell in love with the main characters, Irene for her passion for books, her attempts to remain impartial to emotions and attachments, Kai for his loyalty and spunk and Vale which reminded me so much of a Sherlock Holmes in a Steampunk reality where fae, vampires and werewolves are part of this English Victorian world. The story is thrilling, beginning with action and finishing in a perfect way, that brings all the thriller and suspense to an explosive ending. The language is perfect and the detailed and logical analysis of details and events is extraordinary and not even a little bit boring. A highly recommended reading for all the book lovers out there that dream to have this job, just like I did!

My Rating: 5 Stars This book was an absolute delight to read! For a first novel, I must say I'm highly impressed. From the storyline, the characters, the pace and the ending, absolutely marvellous and a job very well done indeed! The story follows three main characters with a troubled past that haunts their present. Sarah, a strong woman with money and estates that struggles with her urges to hurt and kill men; Dr Karl Gross a renowned psychologist, with a secret that could put an end to his career; and Detective Martin White that keeps a terrible truth from his childhood shared only by his therapist, Dr Gross. Even though the reader knows who the killer is right from the beginning, the story only gains more power since you can really go in depth into the character of Sarah and her own unique struggles. It's a bit scary even because she really does try to keep her homicidal instincts under control but in the end, they control her. The pace of the novel is perfect and the connection between these three characters is perfect. I was afraid of losing myself in between characters that I read through very smoothly. I really got into the plot and the twists in the story came naturally and in the perfect moments. A great read, one that I highly recommend and I will be waiting for future works from V.R Stone. Thank you NetGalley, the publisher Silverwhite Press, and the author for allowing me to read and review a digital copy of this book. My Rating: 3 Stars I admit I was expecting something a bit different and not as much as characters involved. In general, I liked the novel and the characters but in the end, it was a bit depressive for me no matter how much I tried to look on the bright side. I understand that not all lives are happy, but the number of misfortunes and negative events in these characters lives is way too overboard for my taste. It needs a little more light of hope in there to balance things. The characters are very interesting and for me Gisa Klönne really got in deep into them, their thoughts and feelings. On the other hand, I got a bit lost in the midst of the other characters and struggled to remember who they were and their role in the story. In the end, trying to keep up got a bit tiring and I struggled to get to the end of the book. Even so, I was able to understand who was wo when the narrator changed, which was already a positive thing. What I really enjoyed about the book was the story line, the murder and the ending. It was unexpected and it has a really good ending for the story. The clues are all there and with a bit of attention the reader can find out who the killer is before the final chapter. In general is a satisfying read, but too negative for my tastes. Thank you NetGalley, the publisher Manilla, and the author for allowing me to read and review a digital copy of this book. My Rating: 5 Stars The Devil's Evidence is a great sequel to The Devil's Detective, and just as good as the first one. It took me a while to finish this book even though I really enjoyed it because some scenes are very gruesome and sometimes I really felt for Thomas Fool. He really struggles to define the line between establishing some "justice" (whatever that is in hell) and rebelling against the imposed system that he doesn't fully understand. He questions himself and doubts his decisions and choices all the time, and it's difficult not to feel for him in his discoveries, adventures and misadventures in Hell and Heaven. The plot is just as brilliant as the first one and Unsworth brings it even further by turning his attention to Heaven, where despite being described as a place of eternal happiness and content, it reveals to have a dark side too. Definitely recommend it after the reading of "The Devil's Detective". My Rating: 4 Stars There very few things that get to me in a horror setting, but two things that take away my sleep is little children and mirrors. Even so, went I read the description and recognized the author, I knew I needed to read it no matter what. It was intense and engaging, I wasn't expecting the strong sexual content and some very strong gory scenes, but they went well with the story. I appreciated the mix of the two timelines, the present and the 16th century in England, it really gave the feeling of old evil and horrors. The story is very intense, well paced with intense events, both gory and sexual. I really liked the main character and the development of his obsession and madness along with the involvement of Manny Frazer in the evil plan of the mirror. On the other hand, the final character, for me, should have been introduced a bit earlier. It would have been more logical to me to have a finale with one of the characters I grew familiar with. I think the ending was a bit rushed and could have been described more deeply. In general, I really enjoyed the book and I recommend it! Thank you NetGalley, the publisher Tor Books, and the author for allowing me to read and review a digital copy of this book. My Rating: 5 Stars This was my first reading a novel by Lisa Unger and it was very difficult to put down! This page-turning thrilling with paranormal elements will keep the reader clued to its pages! After I read it I found out that this was, in fact, the third book of the collection, but the reader can go through it has a standalone. There are no words to describe how much I liked Finley as the main character. She is completely out-of-the-box, a smart woman, tattooed and with psychic powers that use them to solve murders. What is there not to like? The touch of psychic abilities and visions makes it different and more interesting than usual. Beyond the thriller and the paranormal, there is also the emotional part of the novel that will bring tears to the eyes of the reader for sure. Some of the places described in the book gave the creeps plus the bodies and some very crazy people! The story is very easy to follow without getting lost and the language is just perfect. The twists will keep the reader guessing! A great thriller that I highly recommend! Thank you NetGalley, the publisher Touchstone, and the author for allowing me to read and review a digital copy of this book. My Rating: 4 Stars Loved it! A great page-turner, filled with suspense that will you addicted until the last page. The 1920's with jazz, gangsters and murders is the perfect cocktail for a great reading! At each event, you'll dive deeper and deeper into the story and when you think you got everything figured out, you're in for a surprise. It's the first book I read from A.M. Dunnewin and I absolutely loved it. The way she describes a cold-night in New York was the only thing I needed to get into the story and later on, the intriguing plot that kept destroying my theories. I highly recommend this book to mystery/thriller/suspense lovers. The 5 stars are definitely well deserved and I can't way to see more of Ms Dunnewin! Thank you NetGalley, the publisher Dark Hour Press, and the author for allowing me to read and review a digital copy of this book. My Rating: 4 Stars I received this book before and I didn't read immediately, that a bad decision that was. I read this book in 4 days and highly enjoyed it. The story of a detective and his partner set out to hunt a group of three individuals that kidnap, rape and kill innocent young women. If they took someone you hold dear to you, would you put the law aside and make your own justice? A very thrilling novel packed with action with the main character, Detective Jason Coulter running against time to find his girlfriend knowing that her fate is the same as all the other victims before her. I have mixed feelings for the main character. It's very easy to slip into his shoes when it comes to the question of 'what would you do if it happened to you'. His determination, dedication and his willingness to go beyond the rules to make justice make him a fierce adversary. Those bad guys better watch out! I liked seeing the partnership between Coulter and his partner Dave, especially because they are, in terms of character, different but still compliment each other very well. You can definitely see the friendship and the loyalty between them. Furthermore, I really enjoyed the humour in this book because it balances really well the very serious scenarios of the novel. I can definitely see the old-school humour and I absolutely loved it! John Levitt did an amazing job! I definitely recommend this book especially for the fans of action-thriller novels! Thank you NetGalley, the publisher Endeavour Press, and the author for allowing me to read and review a digital copy of this book. My Rating: 5 Stars Absolutely addictive. This is a page-turned historical thriller and definitely, couldn't put it down from the very beginning. Luke Garcias' style of writing, the high-levelled suspense will keep you in your seat unable to put the book down, leaving you to wonder what will happen next. For the first time in a long time, I had to stop myself from reading it in one seating because it was too good to finish in one go. Absolutely loved the strong female characters and the details of the several historical events and places. Gracias took me on a journey across the world and in an amazing adventure. This book will definitely make you shiver and leave your pulse racing! Thank you NetGalley, the publisher Australian eBook, and the author for allowing me to read and review a digital copy of this book. My Rating: 5 Stars Definitely a Hell of a different reading but not by all means disappointing. I always thought of Hell as the traditional "place of misery and punishment for your sins" like Dante's Inferno, but in this story, Hell becomes something else entirely. Several brutal murders happen in a place where they're common and everyone is guilty of something? Very well thought, with a great in-depth to the main character and amazing plot twits. It's impossible not to like Thomas Fool and to really think over if we really are in control of our choices and our path in life. Is it us or someone else? In Fool's case "Is it my choice or Hell just making me think I have a choice? Is free an illusion in hell and if yes, who creates it?" This phrase isn't in the book, it's just one of the many questions Thomas Fool tries to answer and understand while looking for the responsible for all the brutal murders. Different, macabre, but I loved every page. |
