My Rating: 5 Stars This book was an absolute delight to read! For a first novel, I must say I'm highly impressed. From the storyline, the characters, the pace and the ending, absolutely marvellous and a job very well done indeed! The story follows three main characters with a troubled past that haunts their present. Sarah, a strong woman with money and estates that struggles with her urges to hurt and kill men; Dr Karl Gross a renowned psychologist, with a secret that could put an end to his career; and Detective Martin White that keeps a terrible truth from his childhood shared only by his therapist, Dr Gross. Even though the reader knows who the killer is right from the beginning, the story only gains more power since you can really go in depth into the character of Sarah and her own unique struggles. It's a bit scary even because she really does try to keep her homicidal instincts under control but in the end, they control her. The pace of the novel is perfect and the connection between these three characters is perfect. I was afraid of losing myself in between characters that I read through very smoothly. I really got into the plot and the twists in the story came naturally and in the perfect moments. A great read, one that I highly recommend and I will be waiting for future works from V.R Stone. Thank you NetGalley, the publisher Silverwhite Press, and the author for allowing me to read and review a digital copy of this book.

My Rating: 3 Stars I admit I was expecting something a bit different and not as much as characters involved. In general, I liked the novel and the characters but in the end, it was a bit depressive for me no matter how much I tried to look on the bright side. I understand that not all lives are happy, but the number of misfortunes and negative events in these characters lives is way too overboard for my taste. It needs a little more light of hope in there to balance things. The characters are very interesting and for me Gisa Klönne really got in deep into them, their thoughts and feelings. On the other hand, I got a bit lost in the midst of the other characters and struggled to remember who they were and their role in the story. In the end, trying to keep up got a bit tiring and I struggled to get to the end of the book. Even so, I was able to understand who was wo when the narrator changed, which was already a positive thing. What I really enjoyed about the book was the story line, the murder and the ending. It was unexpected and it has a really good ending for the story. The clues are all there and with a bit of attention the reader can find out who the killer is before the final chapter. In general is a satisfying read, but too negative for my tastes. Thank you NetGalley, the publisher Manilla, and the author for allowing me to read and review a digital copy of this book. My Rating: 5 Stars You're definitely going to eat up this cosy mystery and not even feel guilty about it! The plot is very simple: Marley McKinney helps her cousin run her pancake house while he's in the hospital. When Jimmy is murdered, Marley is determined to do everything in her power and ability to find the killer. I really enjoyed Sarah Fox's writing style, not only for the plot but for the description of the characters, the environment. She makes it very very difficult to guess who the killer is by presenting a wide number of great and developed characters that, as the story goes on, all seem to be guilty! The reader will not know who to trust, that is for sure. I'm looking forward to reading the next books of the Pancake House Mysteries. A very enjoyable read that I highly recommend! Thank you NetGalley, the publisher Alibi, and the author for allowing me to read and review a digital copy of this book. My Rating: 5 Stars The Devil's Evidence is a great sequel to The Devil's Detective, and just as good as the first one. It took me a while to finish this book even though I really enjoyed it because some scenes are very gruesome and sometimes I really felt for Thomas Fool. He really struggles to define the line between establishing some "justice" (whatever that is in hell) and rebelling against the imposed system that he doesn't fully understand. He questions himself and doubts his decisions and choices all the time, and it's difficult not to feel for him in his discoveries, adventures and misadventures in Hell and Heaven. The plot is just as brilliant as the first one and Unsworth brings it even further by turning his attention to Heaven, where despite being described as a place of eternal happiness and content, it reveals to have a dark side too. Definitely recommend it after the reading of "The Devil's Detective". My Rating: 4 Stars Brilliant, simply impossible to put down. The level of suspense made it impossible not to connect with the characters and the plot. I think it's the first true political plot that I have read so far in Agatha Christie novels and I highly enjoyed it. Everyone wants to know the Count's memoirs, fearing what they may contain and they will do everything in their power to get it! It's what makes the story so addictive. The environment just leaks suspense and intrigue. Furthermore, the characters are just as intriguing as the plot, and it keeps the reader guessing how is responsible for the murders. The main character Anthony Cain adds the salt and the pepper to this story with his British humour, witty comments along with Superintendent Battle that reveals to be an unexpected character. In some parts, it was impossible not to laugh out loud! Another addictive delight from the Queen of Mysteries! My Rating: 5 Stars This was my first reading a novel by Lisa Unger and it was very difficult to put down! This page-turning thrilling with paranormal elements will keep the reader clued to its pages! After I read it I found out that this was, in fact, the third book of the collection, but the reader can go through it has a standalone. There are no words to describe how much I liked Finley as the main character. She is completely out-of-the-box, a smart woman, tattooed and with psychic powers that use them to solve murders. What is there not to like? The touch of psychic abilities and visions makes it different and more interesting than usual. Beyond the thriller and the paranormal, there is also the emotional part of the novel that will bring tears to the eyes of the reader for sure. Some of the places described in the book gave the creeps plus the bodies and some very crazy people! The story is very easy to follow without getting lost and the language is just perfect. The twists will keep the reader guessing! A great thriller that I highly recommend! Thank you NetGalley, the publisher Touchstone, and the author for allowing me to read and review a digital copy of this book. My Rating: 5 Stars This is definitely one of the best novels by the Queen of Crime. I had some difficulty in going through the first 2 chapters with all the descriptions, but the wait was worth it. I think the lesson in this book is "what goes around, comes around", at the most unexpected places and the most unexpected time. There was a silence—a comfortable replete silence. Into that silence came The Voice. Without warning, inhuman, penetrating . . . “Ladies and gentlemen! Silence, please... You are charged with the following indictments.” Ten people are lured to a strange island, each one with a dark past that slowly comes to light and gets them killed, one by one. I couldn't figure out who the killer was until the very hand and the epilogue brings all the loose ends together perfectly. I loved the suspense and the speed that the events unfold, it will keep your heart racing! Furthermore, all the twists made my head spin and got me completely addicted to the plot. But the question is - who has the right to decide what justice is? And who is to decide what punishment serves the crime? And is perceived justice at all costs the ultimate goal, or is it the frequently pointless work of a maniac? As a matter of fact, what is justice after all? A masterpiece by Agatha Christie and a most-read! My Rating: 5 Stars Another great book by the Queen of Crime and Mystery! I had problems getting into the story in the beginning and keeping up with all the characters, but after the first chapters, it was impossible to put down. I loved the setting, being a big fan of the ancient Egypt history and mythology. It was the main reason I picked this book in the first place. Agatha Christie shows imagination and very good and deep research that supports the story beautifully. She creates a world with her incredible descriptions and it's definitely a great historical mystery! Furthermore, the reader sees the side of the family drama and the intrigues that mark the powerful families of the time. All the members of the family are suspects and I didn't have any idea of who could be the murder. Everyone had a motive and the opportunity to commit the crimes. In the final chapters, I was in shock. The twist was so unexpected that I saw everything spinning. The way Christie points out the murder and the reasons, it brings all the events and clues together, leaving no lose-ends. I honestly was not expecting it at all. Definitely one of the finest books of the Queen of Crime and Mystery! My Rating: 3 Stars Overall, it was a pleasant read. It was difficult to actually get into the story and the characters at the beginning but then the story picks up after the first couple of chapters. It mixes very well the dangers of vlogging and the internet world along with politics and corruption. All the main characters have something to hide, including the two investigators. Pieces of information are revealed little by little and the whole truth is only revealed much later into the story. It's easy to see through that Kate and Zain have been through damaging events in their lives. The plot is engaging and the plot twists keep the reader interested. On the other hand, I had problems keeping up with the dialogue changes and to the background stories of all the characters. A very nice read in general. Thank you NetGalley, the publisher Twenty7, and the author for allowing me to read and review a digital copy of this book. My rating: 5 Stars It was the first time I read this book and it's definitely one of my favourites from the Queen of Mystery! The plot looks simple and then it gets complicated as the reader gets to know all the characters. Suddenly, it's not so easy anymore. The characters are simply amazing and complex, and it seemed that everyone had something to hide. The only character I actually able to trusted was Charles. The pace of the story is very good and the suspense builds up very nicely. It was impossible for me to guess who the killer was, new events come up all the time and they will keep the reader guessing. The ending is quite shocking! Highly recommend it! 5 stars are well deserved. |
